Job Description

Your new career
A fantastic opportunity is available for an Environmental Health Officer to join our dynamic and supportive team. In this role, you will help our community thrive by contributing to the delivery of a broad range of environmental health services that protect and promote public health.

You will be involved in the registration, monitoring and compliance of food premises, public health and wellbeing premises, onsite wastewater management systems, infectious disease control, tobacco regulation, mosquito management, recreational water quality and public health nuisance investigations. You will also support the delivery of Council’s childhood immunisation program and other public health initiatives.

Key selection criteria
Mandatory qualifications, experience and requirements

  • Degree or Diploma of Applied Science/Environmental Health or similar qualification as declared by the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services and eligible to be a member of Environmental Health Professionals Australia.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, regulations, policies and guidelines to make decisions and clearly communicate to people internal and external to the organisation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate to people both internally and externally to the organisation.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a team philosophy and a willingness to participate in continuous improvement of work practices.
  • An understanding of Council’s Environmental Health service’s roles, responsibilities and programs delivered by the Unit.
  • A current Working With Children Check
  • You have the permanent right to live and work in Australia
  • Police Check results that are suitable for this position (will be arranged by Surf Coast Shire Council). 
    A complete international criminal history check is required if the person has worked or lived overseas for any period of time OR a complete national criminal history check is required if the person has only ever worked in Australia.
