Job Description

As a key member of our Building Services Team, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our community safe, ensuring building compliance across the shire, and maintaining the quality of our built environment.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Conduct inspections and lead enforcement activities in line with the Building Act
  • Engage and educate the public, builders, and property owners on compliance matters
  • Mentor colleagues and support emergency response efforts
  • Be a go-to source of knowledge for internal stakeholders, working closely with our Municipal Building Surveyor (MBS)

What you will bring to the role
You’re a technically strong Building Surveyor who combines expert knowledge with a calm, consultative approach. You know how to work with people, not just regulations—and you take pride in doing work that matters.

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Building Act 1993 and related legislation
  • Demonstrated experience in inspections, compliance, enforcement, and stakeholder engagement
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust with the community
  • Excellent organisational and recordkeeping skills, including report and brief writing
  • Resilience and flexibility to manage after-hours emergency call-outs as part of a roster

Key selection criteria
Mandatory qualifications, experience and requirements

  • •    Victorian Registered Building Surveyor/Inspector with experience.
  • •    Local Government experience, including building enforcement, inspections, Notice/Orders development, Report and Consent, Pool compliance, POPEs, customer request management.
  • •    Understanding of rural and coastal building compliance issues.
  • •    Experience with Salesforce and Greenlight highly desirable

Other Relevant Information
For this vacancy, preferred candidates will be required to undertake pre-employment screening, including a Declaration and Consent to a National Police Check (including potential international criminal history check), Qualification Check. Candidates must hold a current and valid Victorian Drivers Licence, a current WWCC and have the Right to Live and Work in Australia.
