Your new career
The Building Services Team has two primary types of functions within the Surf Coast Shire - legislative enforcement and community building related record keeping. The team looks after pool and spa safety, reports and consents, place of public entertainment permitting, building investigations, customer enquiry response, emergency response and issuing building notices and orders.
The Building Services Support Officer supports the team with administration associated with each of these areas. This is a crucial and very busy role with a heavy focus on data entry, information management, and customer service for internal and external stakeholders. The role requires the applicant to be knowledgeable in building legislation administration requirements.
What you will bring to the role
We’re looking for a Building Services Support Officer with a passion to understand the industry, grow their knowledge and manage the day-to-day support of the team. You’ll have the ability to engage with and answer requests from the community, our enforcement team and other council departments in a timely and professional manner.
You’ll bring a strong customer service mindset, a friendly and approachable demeanour, and the professionalism needed to navigate the challenges of a compliance and enforcement department. We’re looking for someone with integrity, resilience, and a genuine commitment to ensuring community safety.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Strong problem solving, stakeholder engagement and dispute resolution skills
- Exceptional organisational, written communication, administration and recordkeeping abilities
- The ability to balance competing work demands effectively while maintaining high standards.
Key selection criteria
Mandatory qualifications, experience and requirements
- Demonstrated experience in customer service, administration, data entry and electronic recordkeeping.
- Experience with Council’s obligations in regard to Property and Pool information processes highly desirable.
- Experience in Building Control/Building Services recordkeeping and administration desirable.
- Experience with Salesforce and Greenlight highly desirable.
- A current Working With Children Check
- You have the permanent right to live and work in Australia
- Police Check results that are suitable for this position (will be arranged by Surf Coast Shire Council).
A complete international criminal history check is required if the person has worked or lived overseas for any period of time OR a complete national criminal history check is required if the person has only ever worked in Australia.
